Why this module matters

Why Keyword Research matters for your career.

Choosing the wrong keywords wastes months of SEO work and ad budget. Employers test this skill in almost every SEO and PPC interview.
Real-world example

Keyword Research in a real business.

A Patiala gym targets “fitness” (impossible to rank) instead of “gym near Leela Bhawan with personal trainer.” The second keyword brings in fewer searches but far more members.

Keyword research is the first task given to new SEO hires — mastering it makes you useful from day one.

Who the Keyword Research module is for

Future SEO and PPC professionals, content writers and business owners who want to know exactly what their customers search for.

Keyword Research is Module 03 of 27 in the BIIM digital marketing course and sits in the SEO & Search track. You can take it online from anywhere in India, offline at our Patiala head office, or in a hybrid of both.

How we teach Keyword Research, step by step

Every BIIM module follows the same rhythm: learn the concept, practise it on real tools, then apply it to a live business with trainer feedback. In Keyword Research, that looks like this:

  1. Brainstorm seed topics. Start with the services or products the business sells and how customers would describe them in their own words.
  2. Expand with tools. Use Keyword Planner, Google autocomplete and “People also ask” to grow the list.
  3. Classify intent. Label each keyword as informational, commercial, transactional or local.
  4. Prioritise. Weigh volume against difficulty and business value, then map clusters to pages.

Common Keyword Research mistakes — and how to avoid them

Trainers see the same errors again and again when students first try this work. Knowing them in advance saves weeks of trial and error:

  • Chasing high-volume keywords a new site cannot rank for.
  • Ignoring search intent — ranking a blog post for a buying keyword.
  • Forgetting Hindi, Punjabi and “near me” variations real customers use.
  • Creating one page per keyword instead of one page per topic cluster.

How to practise Keyword Research on your own

Type a local service into Google (“tiffin service in Patiala”) and record every suggestion, related search and question. That list alone is a starting keyword plan.
